2025 The next Archbishop of CanterburyPosted on the 3rd Oct 2025 in the category Statements
Following the announcement of the appointment of the Rt Revd Sarah Mullally, the Bishop of London, as the next Archbishop of Canterbury, we assure Bishop Sarah of our prayers and best wishes as she prepares to take on the many and varied responsibilities of the office.
As Bishop of London, Bishop Sarah has fostered a culture of true mutual flourishing in which the Five Guiding Principles have been lived out in a spirit of generosity and respect for differing theological convictions. We trust that, in the exercise of her new office, Bishop Sarah will continue to uphold the House of Bishops Declaration of 2014, and that, in particular, she will ensure the supply of bishops to exercise the ministries needed to ensure proper provision for all.
The Five Guiding Principles and our own ‘Communion, Catholicity and a Catholic Life’ document speak of a desire for the highest possible degree of communion within the Church of England, and we shall continue to practise that approach in our respective ministries and to encourage those affiliated to The Society to do likewise.
